A propos du créateur...

Cédric Berruyer
"designer, éditeur... et franc-tireur"
Auto-interview

About the Creator Cédric Berruyer, designer, producer, and straight shooter" -Auto-interview Except for his regular presence at the casino of Saint-Honoré-les-Bains, (five kilometers from the presbytery of Vandenesse, his vacation digs in Niver, France; source of inspiration), and even if the fact that his name resembles that of Frederic Dard's hero, leading you to believe, even for an instant to the contrary, Cédric Berruyer is a total unknown....indeed. But for how long? A good question, which fascinates our principle character, who's oversized ego leaves nothing to be desired by the majority of the occupants of the artistic-creative basket known as Paris. His drive is to deploy a whirling energy in order to imagine, design and produce his own line of furniture. "To conceive of, develop and master a project from A to Z, is truly thrilling. It's an adventure where the pleasure of doing is the first condition". All this, and not to be forgotten, his talent as an idea man and graphic artist. But Cédric Berruyer "will he become the hero of his own biography?" (David Copperfield, Ch. Dickens), is convinced that the world will not wait for him. "Therefore I have to go to it". This creator, located in the rue Saint Blaise, nonetheless, has a strong distrust of institutions. "School has always been allied against me. I became a model slacker, lacking perspective, retaining only a desire to put myself in the spotlight, ultimately, burning out as a result of resentment." He has a quasi-total disinterest in the work of his peers "I never open or pick up design magazines, as they might give me bad ideas". He does, however, admit to a real admiration for the chapel of Ronchamp (Le Corbusier) and the Hotel St. James in Bouliac, with it furnishings designed by Jean Nouvel. "In the intimist setting of the rooms, as well as the transparency, Jean Nouvel's chairs are an invitation to relaxation and nudity." Screens, tables, shelves, and lamps punctuate an artistic trajectory, free of the cult of the great masters, of stylism, or any obsession related to materials. "I don't give a damn about design talk, about prevailing tastes. Esthetics for esthetics' sake don't interest me either. What matters to me is to conceive of simple forms, beautiful and evident, which have a strong capacity of evocation. I design objects in relation to their function, which can still tell one or more stories to those who discover them."
